Once you arrive at the South Rim of the canyon it's time to board a luxurious state-of-the-art ECO-Star helicopter for your 45 minute flight. Your aerial adventure begins with a view of the North Rim as you fly towards the eastern end of the canyon following the Colorado River. Experience amazing bird's-eye views as you head south through the Dragon Corridor, which is the widest and deepest part of the Grand Canyon. Following your helicopter flight, you will reunite with your Detours guide and explore along the rim of the canyon, capturing incredible photographs of the Canyon.

What To Expect

Route 66

After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.

Williams Depot

Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.

Grand Canyon National Park

Just before entering the Grand Canyon National Park, you will be checked in for your 45 minute helicopter flight, spanning over 90 miles of the Grand Canyon. After your flight, your guide will bring you back into the National Park to discover more by foot. You will have opportunities to walk the rim, shop, capture an unlimited number of photographs, or relax with the best seat in the house. Your total time at Grand Canyon including the helicopter and walking is approximately 3 hours, with approximately 1-1.5 hours on the rim walking.

Its a nice day trip although it does make for a very long day,13 hrs from pick up to drop off in the evening. It makes sense to break it up a little with the helicopter tour over the Canyon which was a lot of fun and a far better way to see the Grand Canyon than just stopping at various lookout stops which is also done even with the helicopter feature. We had great weather which made the day even better and an absolutely terrific guide who worked his tail off all day with a wealth of information, facts, and history about the Canyon and surrounding area. It was obvious he loves the history,and the Indiana lore concerning the Canyon. He made it interesting!! His name is Jason.

What an amazing day we had on this tour! Brendon was our pleasant, awesome, helpful, and accommodating guide for the day. He took care of everyone and made sure we had a great time. We took the helicopter tour and it was worth every penny! It was absolutely one of the coolest experiences I've ever had and I'm 63 years old. I am SO glad we did this and would do it again in a heartbeat.

What can I say ? This tour was wonderful. Our tour guide / driver, Cameron Gray was exceptional. His knowledge of the area was incredible and the very long day was made so interesting and entertaining thanks to his lovely personality and patience. I feel incredibly lucky that he was our guide for this trip. The day is long but the drive up to Grand Canyon thro Scottsdale and Sedona was lovely. A pleasant drive thro some beautiful scenery with a couple of stops and water a plenty en route . The tour of the Canyon was spectacular, in particular the helicopter ride which was truly awesome . A word I never use because it is mis used and overused by too many people, but in this instance it is necessary as it was ' awesome ' in the true sense of the word. Detours as a company were very helpful and always responded to queries promptly . The helicopter company used called Maverick were great too and I felt confident and comfortable . The flight was a good 50minutes. Thank you for a wonderful trip of a lifetime. The memories we made will be truly cherished . Special thanks to Cameron , a credit to Detours indeed .
