What To Expect
1
Route 66
After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.
2
Williams Depot
Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.
3
Grand Canyon National Park
Just before entering the Grand Canyon National Park, you will be checked in for your 45 minute helicopter flight, spanning over 90 miles of the Grand Canyon. After your flight, your guide will bring you back into the National Park to discover more by foot. You will have opportunities to walk the rim, shop, capture an unlimited number of photographs, or relax with the best seat in the house. Your total time at Grand Canyon including the helicopter and walking is approximately 3 hours, with approximately 1-1.5 hours on the rim walking.

Derek the driver of Detours of the West did an amazing job. He was very knowledgeable and interesting keeping the group engaged during the entire trip. The pilot was outstanding and made us feel very safe and secure. This was our first helicopter ride and it was amazing !!!!!! The entire package well worth it ! Now I am thinking about booking a Kauai helicopter ride next year.

The helicopter ride was magnificent. Our pilot was fantastic and made us feel very safe and secure, Pulling out over the Canyon was a breath taking experience and his knowledge and commentary only added to our enjoyment. The ground transportation was for my family a slightly different story. We sat in the back two rows of seats , although a little cramped. Once underway 20 mins late as a passenger wanted to get a coffee, it was clear that it was going to be difficult if not impossible to hear the drivers commentary in the back and that a microphone would have helped big time. What we did hear I felt was a little too scripted and repetitive such as talking about the Junipers a lot. I understand that there are time pressures especially as we started late ,but my family all felt the driving to be unsafe at times , tailgating, speeding and taking his eyes off the road to look in his bag once or twice, I think the minimum we should expect on a trip like this is to be kept safe . We did appreciate the fact that we were taken to a quieter viewpoint on the Canyon which made a lot of difference to our enjoyment. He also made us aware of a local Infection problem stemming from water supplies so we’re instead taken to a restaurant back on Route 66 although it was after 3pm by then although not the drivers fault. I though this restaurant strongly recommended by him was average at best. Overall once at the Canyon it was fabulous but other than that there is room for improvement.

Hello, We appreciate your feedback about the Grand Canyon Tour with Helicopter. We are glad you loved the helicopter experience. I would like to chat with you about the ground portion of your tour. We have PA systems on all of our vans, so I'm wondering if there was a technical issue with the equipment that was preventing you from hearing your guide. We also have software that tracks the speeds of all vehicles, so I'd like to take a look at the log to help identify which guide you had this day. I would like for you to call me so we can discuss your day further, as I am unable to determine your name and tour date from this review. Please ask for me. Thank you, Rachel Bass Director of Reservations 480-633-9013
