What To Expect

Destrehan Plantation

Travel to the historic Destrehan Plantation on Louisiana's Old River Road for a guided tour. During your tour of Destrehan Plantation, professional guides will bring to life the stories of generations who lived on and worked this land. Your guides will share every detail of this mansion’s storied history with you. You’ll also hear tales of the lives of both its owners and slaves. They will also tell you about its wonderfully restored Greek Revival architecture.

Isabelle provided very clear communication from the start, an exact pick up time,and John our driver was very prompt. The swamp air boat tour was 1st and Captain Mike was great! He knew exactly where the alligators were, and they come to him. We saw about 20 today and got to hold a 3 year old he had caught. The Destrahan mansion tour guide (Jordan) was great and very informative. I did Oak Alley a couple years ago and felt Destrehan was better (house a bit more modest but tour much better, displays more developed, and balanced perspecrive). My only complaint (and it was a big one) is that we couldn't hear our driver John in the van as he narrated while we drove around. Three times we all communicated this to him, he would adjust his microphone which helped tremendously for about 2 sentences, and then it would revert back so we gave up. The van's fan made it worse. Totally frustrating! He did some commentary at the plantation also and IMHO he just can't project his voice for the job.

This was the first time either my husband or myself had been on an air boat! What an experience!! The Ragin Cajun Boat Tours did a great job. Our captain, Eric, is a seasoned alligator aficionado. He is very knowledgeable and playful! IYKYK!!! It was awesome running out on the bayou, seeing the wildlife and fauna first hand. Our tour agent, Tours By Isabelle, was great! They were wonderful at communicating and keeping us up to date. Our tour guide, John, was quite the character and kept us entertained. I would definitely book with this group again! 💖
