This is a must-do for anyone visiting Napa. Platypus do all the hard work and leave us to enjoy excellent vineyards in stunning surroundings. Our tour guide for the day was Andy Hyman. Lovely guy and very knowledgeable about both wine and the area. We went to 3 vineyards for tastings and each was amazing. Everyone was different - but helped bring the valley to life. Highly recommended and great value for money.

Isn't Andy a hoot? I can tell you he is a pleasure to work with, as I have been doing for more than a few years, now. He is in fact very knowledgable, but I love that he has the ability to make the information entertaining, and also to avoid overwhelming his guests with all those facts. I'm also pleased to hear that you loved his selection of off-the-beaten path wineries. Thanks so much for sharing your comments!

It was fun making friends and meeting people with a shared interest in wines. We all had fun together. Lunch was ok, nothing spectacular but adequate. But be prepared for high prices for the cost of the tastings. The discounts on the tastings vary with some wineries waiving altogether with a significant purchase to others waiving with a minor purchase. Also, their bus fleet is rickety and run down. Our first bus broke down and they had to run out a replacement. Be prepared for a wild ride through wine country at break neck speeds. Our driver drove the bus like a sports car. But overall a satisfying fun time with nice people. We have done lots of these wine tours and you get what you pay for.

Sorry that our tour failed to impress you more, Mike. Sorry also, that tasting fees have gotten to be so expensive in the Napa Valley. We've been doing our best to push back on that trend, and we've been able to hold those fees down to $25pp at each winery, refundable with wine purchase. I realize this amount is not insignificant, and I wish we could do better. However, it is a discount of more than 50% at most of the wineries we visit, so it is helpful. I am grateful that you made me aware of your concerns about our guide's driving, and we have followed up with her. All of our vehicles are equipped with GPS, so we are alerted whenever they exceed the speed limit or brake hard (which is early ever anymore, since we address it with whenever it occurs. I know GPS doesn't tell the whole story of a driver's style though. I apologize also that your first vehicle encountered a mechanical issue that day. That sort of thing is uncommon for us, but it is always a possibility. In addition to an emphasis on preventative maintenance, we focus on responding rapidly on those rare occasions we have an issue. Your replacement shuttle was prepped and in place in under fifteen minutes, so it hopefully did not compromise your tour day too much. Both shuttles are under seven years old, less that 120K miles and are clean, pleasantly appointed and comfortable. Again, I regret very much the flaws on your tour day.

We had a great time on our Napa wine tour with Dave J. He was punctual for pick up time, courteous and professional throughout the entire day. He was very knowledgeable about the area and was extremely helpful too. We had a great group of 10 - be prepared to chat to others as this really makes the experience! Water was provided throughout the day as was a (much better than expected) Turkey Club. We visited some great wineries: Varozza, AuburnJames and Girard. We loved Varozza and AuburnJames in particular due to the passion they had for their wine! We really enjoyed our experiences at the smaller wineries and this was what we were looking for but it was too overwhelming to find these ourselves! There are fees on top of the tour - as advertised - but these are considerably less than other tours at around $25 and can usually be waived with a purchase. We couldn’t recommend this enough. Do it. We will when we visit again!
