What To Expect

Italian Market

You'll start out exploring the 9th Street Italian Market (aka South 9th Street Curb Market), considered to be America’s oldest open-air market. At this must-see attraction dating back to the 1880s, wander past an array of stores teeming with cheese, chocolate, spices and olive oils. With your knowledgeable guide, meet the butchers, bakers, spice merchants and produce vendors who provide food samples to whet your appetite. You’ll hear stories of the city's early immigrants and have a chance to recreate a famous scene from the 1970s blockbuster film Rocky.

Philadelphia's Magic Gardens

Then head to Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, a unique gallery and community art center that showcases more mosaic art from Isaiah Zagar. Meander through the indoor gallery, and be wowed by the massive outdoor mosaic structure while you hear city stories from your guide.

South Street

Throughout your tour, you'll pop on and off eclectic South Street, checking out shops, tattoo parlors, restaurants, and public art. Your tour concludes at the Magic Gardens. From here, your guide can give you recommendations on where to go to eat, drink, and shop along Philly’s eclectic and dynamic South Street. Craig was excellent. He actually lives a block from the Italian Market so it was really his turf. Lots of info and he was very interested in meeting any interests or need we had on the tour.

Mosaics and market equally interesting. I have never seen more mosaics covering so much area. And we got small snacks in the market shops. I especially liked the olive oil and vinegar shop.
