Don't miss this Seattle icon As a child I remember seeing news stories about the Space Needle and the Seattle World's Fair. It all seemed to futuristic and cool. Very George Jetson. It was a thrill to visit after all these years and it did not disappoint. Someone had suggested that we go at sunset, and we did. We enjoyed the 360 view of Seattle and the Sound. Then the lights were beautiful we beautiful as the evening progressed, We were chased inside by a rare lightening storm. We went down to the lower level where you can stand on a glass floor and see all the gears and supports for the tower, As you wait in line for the elevator, there are news articles and pictures of the construction and early years of the Needle. You can have dinner or drinks at the top. I did not, but understand it's quite pricey.

We were in Seattle for a short period of time so we want to do the most iconic building. Chihuly is so amazing, so we had to do it too. The space needle was a lot of fun. We went on a Friday afternoon and didn't have to wait too long. If you get on the left side you can read a little of the history as you wait. They took our picture on the way to the elevator. If you download the app, you get the photo for free and can change the backdrop. The first level where you go has glass walls that lean outwards with benches every so often. It was beautiful to look out and see all the way around the city and into the bay. The next level down is the rotating floor. You can see out but also down. It rotates at a rate of about 1 hour to get all the way around. It was a little scary but very cool. You could see down into part of the Chihuly garden. A little wait to get back down. There is no time limit to stay at the top. There is a bar/snack bar at the top. The gift shop at the bottom is huge. The Chihuly garden was neat. It was somewhat crowded so we didn't linger too long anywhere. The inside pieces are neat. Then you walk outside and see how the gardens have incorporated the glass. That was beautiful. There is a glass hallway and greenhouse with glass also. At the end there is a theater that has 6 short films (5-8 min) that are worth watching. We had to wait to get a seat but it does give you a better understanding of Chihuly and his work. Watch several of them. The gift shop has a few of his pieces for sale. Worth a look but don't plan to buy one without a bucket of money.

Had a wonderful afternoon visiting Chilhuli Gardens and the space needle. I normally am not an artsy crafty guy but was highly impressed with the large variety of pieces on display. There is no substitution for talent. The space needle had incredible views of the city and surrounding water. Would do it again.
