Sunrise, Doughnuts and Coffee on the Aerial Tram

Overview

The early tour guest gets the spectacular views. We’ll pick you up in central downtown Portland, and swing by one of our favorite coffee roasters for a chance to pick up coffee (or tea). At OHSU, we’ll walk with you to the Aerial Tram. We’ll ride up this feat of Italian engineering up to the top as the early sun reveals the city’s glowing colors. Once there, depending on sunrise timing and weather, we'll watch the sun crest the horizon, or check out the city views in the early morning light.

After we ride back to the bottom, we'll tell you the story of the bridge and its quixotic lights, and orient you to the city whose east-west divider lies before us.

The Aerial Tram was built in 2006 to connect the main campus of Oregon Health Sciences University with the new neighborhood of the South Waterfront. We will be joining students and medical staff on their daily tram ride!

What To Expect

Oregon Health & Science University

OHSU is Portland's biggest employer and an architectural marvel, perched as it is on top of a tall, narrow peak of the Tualatin mountains. Thanks to its dedication to patient well-being, the teaching hospital and research facility is packed with art, some of which we'll experience before boarding the tram.

South Waterfront Park

We'll pass through the South Waterfront neighborhood (where we will pick up doughnuts!)

Tilikum Crossing

We'll introduce you our favorite bridge, the Tilikum; and learn why it came to be here, and what makes it so special (and, at its launch, controversial).

Excellent experience.Basically a private tour since my sister and I were the only 2 people going that day! Sarah the tour guide was great-very knowledgeable and friendly.The views on the tram ride and especially from the top from the hospital were amazing-you could see for miles!Add in a great cup of coffee and 1 of the best donuts I have ever had and it made for a great way to start the day! Highly recommend!

We were lucky to take the tour on a beautiful day; we were picked up in the center of the city in the dark and taken up to the top of OHSU while the sun lit the sky. Word to the wise, the raspberry cream cheese donut is the bomb! Lizzy and Sara were so sweet, and they knew everything about the city; in a few hours, we learned so much more than we had in our whole previous two visits to the city. Thank you for a perfect morning!

This was such a great experience, especially for being my first time in Portland. It wasn’t all the tourist spots, but more personal views of the city and it was just incredible. The donuts were delicious! And the people were just so sweet. Beyond informative and extremely welcoming to the city of Portland.
