Sunset Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Sunset is a magical time on the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. There is movement everywhere. Dolphins are rounding up their dinner, manatees are moving into the shallows to find a comfortable spot to spend the night. As the light fades and the sky ignites with dynamics color, “Mullethead Island,” a federally protected rookery, buzzes with activity as many of the refuge’s 358 unique bird species flock above you to their protected nests for the night. Typical species to expect include Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills, all set to the backdrop of rocket launch pads and iconic NASA landscape. Launch into your escape.

Just one word- Beautiful! The instructor and her support team did a really great job in taking us and getting us back. Since it was my husbands bday we wanted the tour to be special and indeed it was! It was a wonderful experience in going out looking for bioluminescence with few dolphins jumping, many fishes swinging by and manatees too. We had a transparent kayak so that was a big plus!

The water really glows! We spooked a manatee which made our kayak rock. We caught a glowing jelly fish, and saw dolphin and marlin glowing as they swam. The tour guides were infornative and made sure we were all very safe. It was a beautiful starry night, and a once in a lifetime experience!

Peirce and Jaiden were fantastic. They took us through some fun little canals while teaching us about the mangroves and their importance to the ecosystem and balance of nature. Our group was fun and no one got upset when we unintentionally played bumper boats with each other. We saw a pod of dolphins and a Manatee, but the bio was the star of the show. The bio was so beautiful and vibrant since it was so warm. I highly recommend this sunset tour, but be ready to paddle. Peirce and Jaiden were outstanding.
