Sunset Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Sunset is a magical time on the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. There is movement everywhere. Dolphins are rounding up their dinner, manatees are moving into the shallows to find a comfortable spot to spend the night. As the light fades and the sky ignites with dynamics color, “Mullethead Island,” a federally protected rookery, buzzes with activity as many of the refuge’s 358 unique bird species flock above you to their protected nests for the night. Typical species to expect include Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills, all set to the backdrop of rocket launch pads and iconic NASA landscape. Launch into your escape.

The sunset/bioluminescence tour was everything we had hoped for and more! Our guide, Chili, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. His love for Florida wildlife really shone and we all appreciated his joy in sharing it with us. We were lucky enough to have him to ourselves as a family of four. We saw many, many manatees, an alligator, and the bioluminescent plankton (plus a few comb jellyfish) were other-worldly. I would highly recommend this tour. Definitely worth the money!

This was such a fun excursion but the mosquitoes were awful. Guides definitely need to hand out bug spray before and during the tour. Otherwise we saw tons of wildlife and bioluminescence. Worth every penny.

We had a great experience and would highly recommend this tour. Our guide Chaz was super attentive and professional. We saw so many manatees and when evening fell the bioluminesecence was amazing. The manatees came right up to us and my son caught a couple of comb jellies. Chaz and Jacob always made sure we were safe and gave us lots of tips and warnings. Were relatively novice kayaks and never felt unsafe. ! Would definitely do this again to support this natural preserve.
