Take a small-group guided dolphin kayak tour along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay at sunset to combine gorgeous visuals with epic dolphin experiences. Little or no experience is necessary to use our sturdy sit-on-top kayaks to explore the coastal waters of Virginia Beach and get closer to wild dolphins than you have ever been before. Guides will help you launch and navigate along the coast for 2-hrs while you relax and enjoy a magnificent view of the sun setting over the Bay.

What To Expect

First Landing State Park

Meet your guides on the beach at the Main Entrance to First Landing State Park ready for one of Virginia Beach's most unique experiences. After a short briefing on safety and kayak operation, your guides will help launch you and your kayak into the Chesapeake Bay where you will enjoy the thrill of kayaking with Atlantic Bottle nose Dolphins off the Shoreline of Virginia Beach while also witnessing a magnificent sunset.

Cape Henry Lighthouse

Since 1996, We have been offering guided kayak dolphin watching trips to see these amazing creatures during their summer migration off the coast of Virginia. The Sunset Tour combines dolphin watching with a sightseeing tour of landmarks such as The Cape Henry Lighthouses and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. On our Sunset Dolphin Kayak Tour you will likely see dolphins and numerous birds as we paddle along historic Cape Henry in Virginia Beach. Along the way you will also see local landmarks such as the Cape Henry Lighthouses and Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel get lit up by the evening sun as it sinks beyond the horizon of the Bay.

We had an amazing time, if you are in the area I would highly recommend this excursion. Our tour guides were awesome. They took pictures and video for us( for people hesitant about taking their phones on the kayak, which is understandable) and then they sent them to us all. OMG and the dolphins!!! To see them in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience. This was my first time kayaking and now I’m ready to go again! We had such a great time!!!

one of my most memorable activities from my trip to VB! an absolute must! my boyfriend & i were debating over which place to book a kayak tour with the dolphins. once we saw chesapean outdoors offered a tour at sunset- we immediately booked. personally, i have a lot of experience with kayaking but most of the customers including my boyfriend did not. however, the staff (three boys) were extremely helpful, accommodating and friendly! they did not come off as arrogant nor impatient the whole two hours of the tour. some of the others in the group with little to no experience were having trouble catching up with the rest of us so one of the guides were happy to remain with them. the other two guides supervised the rest of the group and stayed close but didn’t exactly hover. they made conversation at times when they passed by tandem kayaks but not to the point where it was annoying. the whole experience was extremely relaxing and as i stated prior- breathtaking. we spotted the dolphins quite a few times and i was able to bring my phone in a waterproof case to document the experience. in the event you are worried about taking your phone- the waves are gentle and it is very difficult to fall off. i just recommend a waterproof case due to the splashing of the paddles as you kayak. nonetheless- it felt like the perfect length of time (2 hours.) they even took pictures of each tandem group for free and sent it directly to our phones! in addition, they bring personal items you don’t want to leave on the beach in a waterproof bag that they hold on to. we felt so at ease during our time on the kayak & will remember it for a lifetime! not to mention- the price is very affordable for a tandem kayak with a view of dolphins!
