At sunset, Oahu’s North Shore becomes magical, with colorful skies and billowing clouds that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a painting. This special time turns into an unforgettable experience when you witness it from horseback, traveling through quiet forests and beautiful mountain trails. That’s not to mention that at sunset everything cools down and all the birds start to sing. Trust us, it’s the best time of day to ride.

On the trail, you might see grazing cattle, native fruit trees, and even wild pigs. You’ll also have sneak peeks of the ocean below, leading up to the best part—a thrilling panoramic view from our scenic lookout. You’ll remember it for years to come.

My husband and daughter, age 7, booked a sunset ride. It was overcast and rain had started coming down a few hours before our ride, but as promised on their site, they ride rain or shine. They had complimentary ponchos and loaded us up on some beautiful quarter horses from their herd. Despite the rain, we really enjoyed chatting with our wrangler and the view of La'ie from the top of their lookout point. I was very impressed with the sure-footed horses as they navigated the mud and terrain throughout the ride.

We did a family excursion to Gunstock Ranch which included both the Sunset Horseback ride and the Legacy Tree Planting. The entire experience was wonderful. The Sunset Horseback Ride was beautiful, relaxing and overall just felt very pleasant. We had a phenomenal guide (Camila) who engaged us the entire way. The horses were well taken care of and we felt comfortable on the ride. It was a beautiful ride and the scenery was gorgeous! We loved that the staff were very careful, wearing & requiring masks, social distancing at check in and through the experience and everything looked clean and orderly. Highly recommend it!

We had a wonderful experience at Gunstock Ranch. Drew, our trail guide, was experienced and attentive. It was obvious that he loved the horses and his job. He took us to where the view of the Koolau Mt range with the ocean was awesome. The horses we rode responded very well to our directions. We would definitely come back in the future.
