Overview

As a CDL tour driver for over five years, offering small group tours allows me to give personal attention to my guest. Having only 1 to 5 people allows to have a much more personal experience. I have over 350 sunsets and have given lectures on the Nene at public schools. Most of the year I’m the only person going up for Sunsets. If one of the big companies is going up it means your in a bus with 24 people NOT fun. . I provide clothing , drinks and snacks. I will take lots of pics and make a video. This is all included.

What's Included

I will bring gear for everyone in case of rain including rain jackets, umbrellas, and towels.

I will bring some local snacks and beverages.

What To Expect

Paia

We will start the tour in Paia town where I will drive you through the town explaining some history and doing some people watching.

Kula

We will stop at the world famous Kula lodge. The views are amazing and there are usually some Jackson chameleons hanging out on the Avocado trees. This is the last stop for any food or beverage before sunset. The ladies here can be cranky and it’s always fun to see what kind of cynical comments they have for the crowd.

Haleakala Crater

We have arrived at the crate. The crater is 26 miles in diameter. You could just fit Manhattan inside of it. On a good day you can see every island except Kauai. Temperatures can be cool here but have no fear I have gear if needed. Some nights jackets and wind pants make for a more comfortable viewing of Sunset. I will take many photos and videos for you to enjoy later. We will head down at Sunset and have incredible views of the sun going down as we drop 10000ft.

Haleakala National Park

Second stop is at 7000 ft and this is where we can change into some gear. There is a ranger station here and some Nene nest here as well. There is a small garden of Silversword here as well and restrooms.

Erik Welander was a good tour guide. He got us safely to the top and down, and allowed enough time at the top without us feeling bored either. He took some photos, and guided us on our way there and back about the local community, things we were seeing, etc. Our tour was on April 1st, 2021. It was a nice evening. Others found it cold at the top, but we were from MN so OK in shorts and hooded sweatshirt. We were lucky the weather cooperated and it was a clear evening to see the sights.

Highly recommend! Erik was super professional, knowledgeable, and prepared - he took and staged pics for us, stopped at a few extra spots, and brought extra outdoor clothing. Mini van was clean and we felt safe going up and down the mountain. Very happy we chose not to wake up at 2 am and go for the sunset instead!

Eric was the perfect tour guide. He met us on time and provided us with an unforgettable experience. The sunset tour was awesome. Eric was knowledgeable about the island. He was very personable and an interesting person. I highly recommend Eric as a tour guide.
