Taos Walking Tour

Overview
A quick and easy intro to this funky little town. We cover the pivotal historical points that make this place unique, including the deadly haircut of New Mexico’s first American Governor, the red light district of Taos's past, a priest’s 51 children, and the most important Native American in history. We mix plenty of spice, sauce, and a few ghost stories to keep you entertained for the whole 60-minute, half-mile walking tour. Dog friendly! Offered daily with a reservation. Sam does a great job explaining the history of the area, and pointing out little known facts. he is actually quite a character and artist himself. we were the only people on the tour, so it was like a private tour.

Sam was a great guide. His familiarity with local artists was helpful in digesting the amazing art scene in Taos as well as the fascinating history of this beautiful town.

I think it must be hard to make a living in Taos when you're an artist and must make ends meet by giving walking tours to tourists. That said, although the guide of our one-hour walking tour around the streets near the plaza had lots of "before" photos for us to compare to buildings we saw in present time, much of the time was spent schlepping into galleries of artists who were friends and acquaintances of his. I thought I'd booked a tour for the nearby Pueblo, so that was MY mistake, but we could have visited galleries on our own, without paying $40 for two of us. I also found the stories of sexually active priests and other accounts of lasciviousness about town to be less than amusing or illuminating, and didn't much appreciate jokes about unwashed hippies and comments about down-on-their-luck homeless folks seemed uncomfortably lacking in compassion. Even our guide seemed bored with the anecdotes he was recounting,
