Little Italy
"The Amici (Friend) House is a historic house in San Diego’s Little Italy—originally a single-family residence by the Giacalone family and later a residential rental property. Antonio Giacalone and his wife, Josephine were a part of the Italian fishing community in Little Italy and arrived in San Diego in 1916. Mr. Giacalone was considered one of the best fishermen during the 1920s and 1930s. The Giacalone family’s home was originally located on W. Date, between Columbia and India. In 2014, when the Piazza della Famiglia broke ground, the Little Italy Association partnered with HG Fenton to move the house to Amici Park on W. Date and Union Streets and preserve the historic home."

Little Italy is a chic, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, packed with trendy cocktail bars, brewpubs and restaurants with bustling patios. Upscale clothing boutiques, indie music venues and quaint piazzas dot the area, while the weekly Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market draws crowds to its mix of produce, gourmet food and craft stalls. The green lawns of Waterfront Park have fountains, and offer views of the bay.

What an amazing and tasty experience! We’ve been to Little Italy several times and always wanted to try a gourmet food tour, as we do in our favorite cities. Quite simply, this tour is the greatest! Anthony effortlessly and interestingly combines an astounding historical knowledge with his remarkable culinary background! His relationship with the restaurants (and bars!) is top-notch, with a casual, yet respectful, vibe - commensurate with the varied establishments. And we understand he selects from dozens of places in the area, with no two tours alike. Probably not a grand tour for the little ones, but we will most certainly partake again… Two words of advice: Come hungry!!!
