• Comfortable walking shoes are recommended
• Please note due to the nature of the theatre being a working movie theatre and hosts special events please note, that the tour schedule can change.
• Note that the theatre is not able to host tours on days that special events occur
•Note most days tours start at 10am (unless a private event is taking place) and the final tour of the day typically starts at 4:30pm

What To Expect

TCL Chinese Theatres

Beginning in the historic Forecourt of the Stars, the guests are escorted inside the world-famous TCL Chinese Theatre. While in the lobby, the VIP Tour Guide takes guests back in time, through Hollywood’s glamorous history. Guests are shown various costumes, props, iconic artwork, and architecture associated with the history of the theatre. After walking through the displays in the lobby, patrons will be escorted to the main theatre, home to the largest IMAX in the world. While seated in the luxurious auditorium, guests are given the opportunity to relive the theatre’s star-studded past, by watching a short film, hosted by TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz. With over 80 years of history, the TCL Chinese Theatres remains one of Hollywood’s most beloved movie palaces.

We were watching the famous handprints in front of the theatre when he heard the announcement that the tour would start in 10 minutes. We decided to go ask for details how long it takes, if we see the big screen and room etc. they have 2 tours: lobby 14$ don’t go!!)and VIP 18$, the only diference is that the VIP will bring you to the main room, which is what we wanted to see. When I asked for 2 tickets the guy gave me change for the 14$ tour which I was not interested at all since wouldn’t take me to the room. When I asked for my refund since VIP was only 2h time from that moment and we had other plans he said he would bring me inside to see the room anyway, we agreed. More than half of the tour is showing the costumes on display inside where they features and little history about them. Then he took is in the room and since there was a movie currently on it was obviously all dark and we could not even spot the chinese letters and architecture of it all.... then he takes you outside and basically shows you the handprints, which you can find yourself without having to pay. Complete rip-off. At the end when he saw a cue forming up at his counter he rushed and wrapped up... guess he is working for his commissions. Please do not feed this tour anymore. The interior of the theatre (lobby) is surely very nice to see but you can also see it if you purchase a movie ticket. And also if you go see a movie you ll see the interior of the room (which we didn’t - was dark). I would have asked to speak with his manager but the cue was forming up and I am on holidays so I let it go.

The TCL Chinese Theatre is a beautiful gem, showing off the best of aesthetic design, from an earlier Hollywood age, as well as, the best of modern, movie-going technology. This tour was an excellent, behind-the-scenes look at a true historic and cinematic, icon. Our tour guide was friendly, informative and knowledgeable. Well worth an hour of your time.
