Mendenhall Glacier
Our knowledgeable guide will narrate on the drive to the Mendenhall glacier. You’ll hear stories of Historic Downtown Juneau and the mining days. Learn of our black bears whales and bald eagles. The blue bus glacier express runs every 30 minutes most days from the Mount Roberts tramway parking lot to the glacier. Some days it is every hour. Please check the last return with your driver. While at the glacier be sure to visit the glacier visitor Center building and Gift Shop. See the film about the glaciers and how they are formed. The national forest service imposes a five dollar fee for entry into the visitor center but that fee is included in the cost of your tour. Don’t miss nugget falls. One of the most fabulous sites of nature near Juneau. When returning to downtown remember “The Blue Bus” picks up right where It dropped you off at and that is at the “Bear stop“

The Blue Bus trip to the Mendenhall Glacier was excellent. Very easy to find the bus, right where the cruise ship shuttle boats docked! This was an economical way to get a tour of Juneau and a ride to the glacier. The busses run about every 1/2 hour so there is virtually no standing around waiting for a bus. We walked around Juneau first, then got on the bus for a more extensive tour and ride to the glacier. At the glacier, we walked-hiked up to the falls and back to the visitor center. This was a fairly easy hike for two adults over age 55 who are not regular hikers. When we were finished with all the sights and gift-shop shopping, the Blue Bus (at the "Bear" stop) was waiting for us! We boarded and enjoyed the views back to Juneau and more shopping. Very enjoyable day. The sun was shining and it was in the mid 70s (degrees Fahrenheit). We were told this was unusual weather for Juneau, so we were very fortunate.

The narration was fun. Ernie was a hoot. The bus was on time both directions. We took the hike to the falls. Very beautiful.

Drivers to and from the glacier we’re very good at describing what we saw along the route. The walk to Nugget Falls is worth it!
