The Civil Rights Movement in Atlanta: A Self-Guided Audio Tour

Overview
Take a journey through recent history on this self-guided walking tour of Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn neighborhood.

The tour starts at the Atlanta Breakfast Club and then guides you to see where Martin Luther King is buried, where he was born and many of the churches linked to the Civil Rights Movement. While exploring the history of MLK's life and legacy, you’ll venture off the main path to see great skyline views of Atlanta. And you'll learn about the changes made in recent times to this ever-evolving neighborhood, peppered with historical landmarks.

Towards the end of the journey, you'll go through the funky Edgewood neighborhood, where the vibe changes significantly. The tour ends by paying tribute to a few more historical spots and exploring a quaint museum dedicated to Madame CJ Walker, the first female self-made millionaire.

Learning about the civil rights history and the Sweet Auburn area made me feel more connected to Atlanta, where I've lived for 3 months now. The history didn't go overly in depth, I'll want to learn more, but I'm glad to know what made the city - and to have discovered a new nightlife area as well! The walking was easy and a refreshing change from the crowded museums.
