Whereas the guide had plenty of history to share, this was a painfully boring 2.5 hours (we took the Beyond the Shadows tour). At no point did I feel like we were on a ghost tour as the few "ghost" stories he told lacked any intrigue or spookiness. I had high hopes because I had never been on a ghost tour, but I was encouraged by a friend who had enjoyed one here in Williamsburg. I honestly was ready to leave after 15-20 minutes but I stayed as to not embarrass anyone including my spouse. The guide had good intentions (and I tipped regardless of the poor experience) but I can not stress how bad this was. The ghost finding equipment that was advertised included two small devices that the guide said we could look at but would only slow down the tour (they never ever factored into the tour). To add to the misery, he encouraged the only other couple on the tour to feel free to smoke "as long as the smoke goes down wind." Well, we were downwind for the majority of the tour. I typically do not complain and really don't like being that guy, but this was so bad, I wanted to spare others the lost money and poor experience. We suspect other guides could make this much better. The reviews that we found beforehand did identify several names that people enjoyed and recommended. I don't really want to call out this individual because he seemed like a very nice man that cared about his trade. My recommendation would be they need to make this more spooky and scary. I was really looking forward to being creeped out a bit, but all I left with was being sleepy and worn out. Not sure it could have been any worse.
