Tijuana Food Tasting: Tijuana Day Tour from San Diego

Overview
Street food is king in Tijuana! It rules with an unyielding iron fist. No matter what concoction they come up with at the swankiest restaurants, it all derives from the love and respect for the simplicity of those beloved dishes.

Excellent tour. Got to sample street tacos, tamales, Caesar salad, and margarita. Left very full and satisfied. Enjoyed seeing the city of Tijuana and learning about the culture. Andres was a friendly and informative guide. Highly recommend.

Not only did our tour guide not show up, when I called to find out what was going on, no one answered the phone with number they gave me. I left multiple voicemails and text messages and still have not gotten a response from them 2 days later. A total rip off.... They stole my money and ran.

We embarked on a tour to Tijuana from San Diego to try out authentic Mexican food. Andre was our tour guide for the day. He was friendly and open to suggestions. The foods on offer was underwhelming as we were just taken around the 'touristy' streets in downtown Tijuana, trying out stereotypical Mexican grub in restaurants that includes them on its respective menus. This included steamed and normal tacos, moles, sweets from the market (optional), salad and other foods upon request. There was one attempt to find tamales (my bespoke request) from a stall; despite Andres' efforts, we were unable to locate the stall. We then settled for a restaurant that happens to serve this, and it turned out to be disappointing compared to what I had in San Diego. To those interested in the tour, just don't expect a food haunt around the city to find the tastiest/most authentic food, or the oldest eateries. For the more discerning travellers wanting to try something out of the norm, they might find themselves slightly disappointed. The review title speaks for itself. We went to the Old Town in San Diego on our first day in the city and found the same foods that was tastier. Not to berate the tour company as it's a great concept, but I would like more of a reason to cross the borders and try something that is different from what the States has to offer.
