What a great day! The tour guide was knowledgeable and was a great day to learn about NJ history. The gardens, China, and wine cellar were my favorite parts.

It really is amazing how much "unknown" history is right in New Jersey. If you love history (especially Revolutionary War/Early Americana), then you will really enjoy this well preserved house and the history of the Livingston Family (First NJ Governor reelected 14 times!) The tour guide was WELL-INFORMED and don't forget to take some time to explore the gardens. (They have tours of the gardens, too!) Many of the artifacts are original to the property, which is rare. So many family members lived in this house, you need a flow-chart to remember them all! LOL Ideal for older children and adults, BUT they have many special programs specifically designed for students for class trips and scouting programs/badges (call first) and they have the fire museum next door for the kids. Plenty of parking and small gift shop.

We did a combo house & garden tour on a super hot Friday. No other guests were on site, so we had a private 2 1/2 hour tour! All 3 staff members were friendly & Hannah was very knowledgeable overall. The house tour left us with some unanswered questions, but our guide seemed new. Beautifully maintained property, parking & welcome center. I grew up in the area & never knew it existed! We learned much about NJ history. This place was an interesting, hidden gem I recommend.
