The Trails and Ale Tour is an hour-long guided tour along the Totem Loop of Mt. Roberts which includes the observation decks. This tour is about Alaskan Wildlife with the flora and fauna of the mountain and Juneau's history. The end of the tour includes a wooden nickel valued up to $10 for any drink, which can be redeemed in Timberline Bar and Grill or the Tr’Ale House, our Beer Garden. Kids can use their wooden nickel in the Timberline restaurant for non-alcohol drinks.

What To Expect

Goldbelt Tram

The Alaska Native Tour shares our worldview with distinct aspects of our Culture at each of our Totems. These monuments tell the backstory of how Nature influences both our People and our Culture. Cultural aspects include Oral Tradition, Ecological Knowledge, Social Practices, Music & Performance Arts, Artwork and Language. Nature’s influence includes Geology, Geography, Phenology, Ecology, Economics, Sustainability, and Biodiversity. Alaska Native Culture is organized wisdom, while the Science of Nature is organized knowledge. This tour is about how the two work hand in hand, to give us a higher sense of responsibility to our People, our Land and ourselves. The Goldbelt Tram is located just steps off the cruise ship dock. The tram makes a six-minute ascent up Mount Roberts from the lower terminal to a height of about 1,800 feet. A restaurant, theater, beer garden and retail shop are located at the top of the tramway, as well as connections to trails on the mountain.

Stephanie and Michaeel were great! Stephanie really knew her plants and trees while Michael shared his knowledge of the area, history and the totem poles. He really taught me a bunch of great information. The other great part was skipping the 1 hour wait inline as a VIP! Again, thank you Stephanie and Michael!!

Did a quick but fascinating tour at the top. Plants, glaciers, climatology, continental theory, and local history. The views are incredible too.

Stephanie was a fun and knowledgeable guide. She answered all our questions, talked about the history of Alaska, the plants, animals and the many totem poles we saw on the walk to the viewpoints. The views from the mountain top were great and the gondola ride was fun. We enjoyed the excursion very much.
