Twilight Tour- Hauntings for Tweens (8 - 12 y.o.)

Overview
Our Twilight Tour was created for upper elementary aged kids- those ready for deeper questions, critical thinking, and curiosity about the "what-ifs". Like our Spooky Tour, we focus on the real history, documented accounts, and actual experiences witnessed on tours. However, the Twilight Tour digs deeper than the Spooky Tour. The stories are more detailed with more opportunities to interact with the spirit realm. The tour is interactive- kids will never be put on the spot but encouraged to try something new, something they won't soon forget. New Orleans is a magical, mysterious city. On this tour for 8 - 12 year old kids, they will leave intrigued, enchanted, and perhaps a little spooked. Our tour is unique because it is kid friendly: no violence, no gore, nor "adult" topics and language. We keep it clean!

What To Expect
1
Old Ursuline Convent Museum
The tour begins at the Old Ursulines Convent where families will learn about the Ursulines nuns and their critical role in rescuing the colony from certain doom. They'll hear about the caskette girls, sent here to marry the young settlers- but rumored to have brought a bit more than their wedding dresses to the colony...
2
Lalaurie Mansion
The tale of this mansion enticed Nicholas Cage enough to purchase the home- and Hollywood enough to create American Horror Story based on it. Families will hear what happened here (child-friendly version!!)- as well as how the truth came to be learned. Hauntings throughout the centuries and on past tours will be shared, as well as an attempt to communicate with Madame Lalaurie...
3
Gallier House
We will teach families about the Irish immigrant / Creole family that lived here - and died here- in the 19th century. The mourning rituals of this Catholic city, during Victorian times, will be explored with haunted antiques for kids to see - and hold (if they dare!) * We do not go inside here but it is a museum definitely worth visiting!!
4
Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar
At this shop, families will learn about Lafitte- the most powerful pirate in 19th century New Orleans. They'll hear about some of his well known hauntings here- as well as those experienced on past tours. Kids will get to use a ghost detecting tool to measure any presence of spirits. (Adults can go inside while we're stopped here.)
5
New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum
We will end the tour here, learning about our famous Voodoo priestess, Marie Laveau. Families will learn about the history of voodoo in New Orleans- its connection to west Africa and Haiti. Relics from trips to Haiti and voodoo museums will be sharedwell. Kids will also learn about and create a gris-gris bag based on historic research. *We do not go inside the museum though we encourage families to visit!!

Jill, our teacher/guide, was excellent! She kept all the kids interested & engaged from the very beginning and throughout the tour. The kids in our tour group ranged in age from strollers through early teens. She made sure to keep all the kids included and involved. I personally learned a lot on the tour as well as the other adults. This tour was one of our kids’ favorite activities (mine too!). An easy walk for the kids around a less crowded area of the French Quarter with several stops to discuss history and mildly spooky stories that is perfect for all ages. Jill had several visual aids and ā€œghost huntingā€ tools that the kids enjoyed using. Highly recommend!!! Also, booking was easy, communication was excellent.

This tour was perfect in every way! I'm a New Orleanian by birth, museum educator by training and Jill struck the perfect tone in every way... accurate historical information delivered in an engaging and kid-appropriate way. She had everyone from the teens to the tweens to our seven year old captivated. I plan to send all visitors with kids her way!
