With over 300 species of birds throughout the year, it is the only Park that was established for its biological and ecological considerations rather than its geological features. However, most of the 1.5 million acres in the Park are flooded and essentially out of reach for the average visitor. Everglades Area Tours can you take you to areas seldom reached by others. In comfortable captain's style seating, you will be safely brought deep into Everglades National Park's 10,000 Islands for an interpretive tour with your naturalist guide. Depending on the season, you can expect to encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, rosette spoonbills, as well as, numerous species of fish and shore birds. Not only will you be introduced to the wonderful birding and wildlife in the area, you will also learn about the Everglades ecosystems, it rich heritage and long history. We went to Florida for a short trip and decided we wanted to do an Everglades boat tour. We ended up finding this place. We were a little unsure about what we were getting into when we arrived at the meet address- the address is a small building with a deli inside (run by a wonderful couple by the way) but things worked out well. The tour guide- Dan- met us at the location and took us to the departure point. He was very knowledgeable on the animals, plants, and Everglades in general. He stopped often to point out some interesting animals and made the tour even more fun by giving the dolphins some waves to jump on! As we went out to the Gulf shoreline, he even pulled over and grabbed a horseshoe crab and gave us a lesson on it. The crab was gently placed back afterwards into the water. Dan was highly personable- very fun to be around. He even offered the group a pair of cheetah print crocs that were found in the Everglades- we don’t know what happened to the person who once owned them. Before leaving we asked Dan if he suggested any local beaches- he did. We went after and had a blast. It was Dan’s birthday weekend and he stated that he planned to eat a lot since he was on a diet… we hope you ate well, Dan! Thank you for the memories!! What a nice trip this was!
