This was an OK experience, but there were several factors that I wish we were made aware of before we booked. 1. This is a barefoot boat trip. Neither my Wife or I were aware of this or prepared to take off our shoes and socks and leave them in unlocked cubby holes at the slip. I seriously hope we donāt get some form of athletes foot from this experience. 2. This one almost made me not get on the boat. They oversell the trip by 6 passengers more then they have seats. The last 6 people to get on the boat get to hang off the edge of the bow clinging to two skimpy ropes and hope they donāt go overboard. This is also EXTREMELY uncomfortable. My Wife and I have bad backs and arthritis, and our bodies from shoulders to buttocks were on FIRE after this trip. Call me crazy, but when I buy a ticket on a boat ride, I expect a seat. 3. This is the real kicker; the reason we booked this ride is because we have taken other whale watches in Maui on larger boats and felt we didnāt get close enough to the whalesā¦ this company brands themselves as a up close encounter, so we endured the smaller uncomfortable craft for an opportunity to get closer to the whales.. well, what they donāt tell you is that due to regulation, no boat can get closer than 100 yards to the whales, unless they swim to you (so why did I take the small uncomfortable boat?) on top of this factor, our boat captain for the day was above and beyond cautious and never positioned the boat any closer than 200 yards away.. the larger boats were out there and less than a quarter of the distance that we were from the whales.. I understand that we need to do all we can to coexist with the marine life and not upset their pattens, but donāt advertise yourself as an up close experience if you are going to stay twice as far from the whales as the other tours. We did see a mom and calf duo on our trip, so that was the one bright point.

We're glad to hear you got to see a mom and calf on your whale watch- that's a special day! We apologize for the inconvenience of taking off your shoes before boarding and the uncomfortable seating. We do our best to let guests know it's a bit of an adventure on our tours while making everyone's safety (including the marine life) our priority. We hope you come back and see us again knowing that you might want to wear slippers and check in early to board early and get the seat you want- we'd love to show you a good time because that's what it's all about :) Mahalo
