Tour Waimea Canyon, dubbed by Mark Twain as the " Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Although Mark Twain never visited the island, he must have seen enough of it to judge the unparalleled grandeur of this famous Kauai landmark. It is truly a spectacular sight. Mount Waialeale is known as the wettest spot on earth with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450 inches. Most of the mountain rain drains into the nearby Alakai Swamp, home to several rare species of plants and birds. Wailua Falls is also known as Fantasy Island Waterfalls for their cameo appearance weekly in the TV series of the same name. The legendary Na Pali Coast, with its dramatic cliffs chiseled by time and remote beaches is spellbinding no matter how many times you see it. This is the home of the legendary Bali Hai as seen in the 20th Century Fox movie, South Pacific.

We had been to the island of Kauai several times, but had never even thought about taking a helicopter tour until someone had highly recommended the tour because we would be able to see the island from a perspective that can never be seen from ground level. He was right! The views from above was definitely breathtaking. At the start of the tour, our helicopter group (6 persons max. plus the pilot) had all met at the Sunshine Helicopter Tour office, after they had picked us up from our resort location in their shuttle van. At the tour office, we were given about a 15 minute helicopter safety explanation which is mandatory before boarding. After the safety meeting, our group was then transported by their shuttle van from the tour office to the Lihue Airport helicopter pads area. The helicopter tour was fun and exciting - and safe. The pilot was very friendly and gave us explanations of all the tour sites as we flew from one location to another. The aerial view of Kauai is stunning - we can see the island that can never be seen from ground level. Some of the sites we had viewed from the helicopter are not accessible by hiking. For the best seats on the helicopter for photography are the two (2) front VIP seats - next to the pilot are the best in my opinion but these seats are premium priced. The four (4) rear seats are nice but you would have to be "creative" in taking photos. Our highly experienced pilot made sure that the helicopter is angled in directions that the rear seat passengers can get a good view of the sites as well. Overall, the Sunshine Helicopter tour of Kauai was great fun and there are stunning aerial views that can never be seen from ground level.

Absolutely amazing helicopter tour with Sunshine! We are a family of four, we took our two young adult "children" on a fantastic family vacation to lovely Kauai. My husband and I have been on two helicopter tours before, but our kids had never been. We were hoping this would be the incredible experience for them that our has been for us, and they loved it! We all felt perfectly safe with our experienced pilot, and the reputation of this company. The day was cloudy and sunny off and on, and we did have some clouds and rain in some parts of the island, but it also was beautiful and mysterious. I caught pictures of a double rainbow along the Napali Coast, a result of the rain, so don't be discouraged if it isn't perfectly sunny! Every employee we interacted with was courteous and friendly. This will be the highlight of our trip!

The helicopter ride itself is breathtaking with cliffs, waterfalls, and even rainbows. But there are definite negatives. One, you may not be sitting by a window. If you're stuck in the middle two seats, it is not worth the money. Next, we ended up on an older helicopter. The sound system in the headphones sucked. We couldn't hear the pilot or the music they attempted to play. Then, prepare to be in for a bumpy ride. Finally, when you get back, they want to charge you $60 for a flash drive video of your ride. They also want to charge you $30 for a photo in a frame. After charging an exorbitant amount for the ride, these things should be thrown in for free. So, while the ride was beautiful, there's some definite improvements that need to be made.
