What To Expect
1
Strasburg
Stop at the farm where the Academy Award winning movie "Witness" was filmed. You will have a chance to tour the beautiful Amish farm which remains much as it was in the movie, interact with their many animals and possibly meet the wonderful Amish family who owns the farm. This is a completely private stop and not available to the public. We will stop at a private and beautiful Amish home, where the kids make birdhouses. Witness Amish craftsmanship up close in the artisan stable and barn - and purchase a birdhouse if you like.
2
Paradise
Tour of an operating, private Amish dairy farm dating back to 1830's
3
Amish Country
We will take a driving tour through beautiful Lancaster County farmland and learn about the history, culture, religion, and education of the Amish. We will see buildings associated with the very first European settlers from more than 300 years ago, covered bridges, 19th century mills, and more on our way to our first stop.
4
Strasburg
Stop at an Amish owned and operated creamery, where your ice cream is included, and the views are free too. This is ice cream as it should be... rich, fresh, and delicious!
5
Ronks
Shop where the Amish shop, not the tourists. Natural food stores are a staple for the Amish and we will go to an out of the way gem, for an up close look at this Amish run business.

We went on the Amish Immersion tour - it was fantastic! Our tour guide Dale was incredibly knowledgeable and a fantastic teacher to boot. He told us the history of the Amish moving to this country nearly 400 years ago and that helped to put the current customs and practices of the Amish in a context that makes a lot of sense. The five stops each showed us different aspects of Amish life in a way that bought everything to life. Wonderful. Wouldnā€™t miss it for anything!

I thought this tour met our objective, which was to get a taste of Amish life. I wanted to do a tour so we could have access to more farms (my husband is really interested in farming) and have a guide that could drive us around with easy entry and to answer questions. Definitely our guide has a lot of knowledge on the area. There were 5 stops. 3 were not public access and I thought it was cool to see the farm used to film the movie Witness. The other two personal farms were interesting in that a sweet boy was there to talk to us (bird houses for sale) and the other we could be around the family who was working hard at their dairy business. The other 2 farms were commercial businesses for tourists, the ice cream shop and the souvenir shop/pretzel stand. The ice cream was absolutely deliciousā€¦.just thinking about it now, I wish I could go back. The souvenir shop was meh and the pretzel was good, but Iā€™ve had better. In general, it was an enjoyable, easy afternoon in a comfortable van with good conversation and information. An observation not directly related to the tour companyā€¦I donā€™t know how long Amish country will really be an alternative living community to see and understand. There were so many families that have power (some because of legal regulations for their products), solar, but also electricity, and cell phones, and mechanical farming equipment. I do understand that technology does infiltrate many, I was just wondering if things are really different in Amish country these days.

Thanks for the generally positive and very comprehensive review. We take all feedback seriously. We are happy to hear you appreciated the access and information we provide. We also understand that sometimes different guests have different impressions of the various stops. We take note of yours. While there are certainly some concessions made by the Amish over time, some due to necessity and others that are adopted because they just make sense to them, the Amish still remain a very culturally unique group of people and we expect they will be for a long time. Knowing them as we do, we appreciate the tension they feel between successfully existing in the 21st century while trying earnestly to maintain their culture.
