We did a 12:30 pm moderate hike and Blake was our guide. We were the only people who booked that date and time so my husband and I got a private guided hike, which was great. Blake picked us up right at the entrance of our hotel on the strip in an air conditioned mini van and drive us to the Valley of Fire. He had backpacks for us to use as well as a bag of snacks and cooler of drinks in the back of the van. Blake was extremely knowledgeable about local history and geography so we actually learned a lot during the drive and the hike. The hike itself was strenuous, but in a fun way. We were looking for some physical activity and he definitely got our heart rate up. There were a several tricky areas to navigate through, but Blake was there to help if needed. We have never really done real hiking before, but Blake helped us feel comfortable and confident. I would recommend hiking boots if doing moderate or more strenuous hikes. Our tennis shoes worked since they had good traction/grip, but they got a lot of sand in them. The scenery in the Valley of Fire is stunning and it is extremely peaceful. There were times we stopped to take a break and the silence was truly deafening. We ended right at sunset and even got to see the big horn sheep on the drive out. I highly recommend this hike and Blake as a guide.
