What To Expect
1
Paradise Valley
Paradise Valley is a major river valley of the Yellowstone River in southwestern Montana just north of Yellowstone National Park in Park County, Montana. The valley is flanked by the Absaroka Range on the east and the Gallatin Range on the west. Thomas Wolfe described the expansive valley as "nude spaciousness" when he drove through on a western trip. The Yellowstone River flows through the valley and is noted for world-class fly fishing in the river and nearby spring creeks such as DePuy Spring Creek. The valley hosts other natural wonders such as several natural hot springs, including Chico Hot Springs near Emigrant, Montana, La Duke Hot Springs near Gardiner, and Hunter's Hot Springs near Livingston. Mount Cowen is the largest peak near the valley, at 11,212 feet (3,417 m) in elevation. It is located in the southern portion of the valley on the eastern side of the river within the Absaroka mountain range.
2
Yankee Jim Canyon
Yankee Jim Canyon is a short, narrow canyon on the Yellowstone River about 13 miles north of Yellowstone Park. The canyon has the largest rapids on the Yellowstone River outside of the Park (boating on the Yellowstone River is banned in Yellowstone Park). Yankee Jim Canyon is less than five miles long and the whitewater rapids.
3
Gardiner
The original entrance to Yellowstone. Home to Roosevelt Arch.
4
Mammoth Hot Springs
Geology Construction Buildings Recreation Mammoth Hot Springs are a surficial expression of the deep volcanic forces at work in Yellowstone. Although these springs lie outside the caldera boundary, their energy is attributed to the same magmatic system that fuels other Yellowstone thermal areas.
5
Undine Falls
See one of the most scenic waterfalls in the north portions of Yellowstone NP. This waterfall is often frozen over in the winter providing a spectacular scene with the river still flowing behind the waterfall
6
Slough Creek
This stop provides a view of the beginning of Lamar Valley with a high probability of seeing wildlife during the winter months.

Yellowstone in winter is when there is an abundance of wildlife and scarcity of people - as travel should be. Having AJ, our driver, professional photographer, and guide made the experience worth every penny! Minutes into our journey we felt like old friends reuniting on a mini-road trip. He was informative and engaging - sharing stories about the tours, where the wildlife like to hide, giving the historical perspective. He was attentive to our needs offering to stop wherever and whenever for a picture, a bathroom break, a snack, or a drink. I loved that we didn't have to ask people to take our pictures because we had AJ and he knew all of the best spots and took all of the best shots. He promised us wildlife - and didn't fall short. We saw bison, wolves, white tail deer, big horn sheep, elk, and a variety of birds. AJ's vibe is super chill, yet it radiates his passion for wildlife, travel, and our shared experience. This is an all day excursion and at no point did we grow tired or weary of our tour, AJ, or Yellowstone in winter. Quite the contrary, the sights, whether blue skies or snow squalls were spectacular. Seeing herds of wildlife never got old. Neither traffic nor tourists were a thing. If you are looking for an experience where you don't have to watch the road while trying to observe the wildlife, where you don't have to wonder if you can pull over for a quick snapshot, or where you don't have to contend with the planning and research then this trip is for you. Was it cold? Der... it's Yellowstone in the winter, the only entrance to the park that is open to car traffic. So yeah, it was cold. Was it worth it? Absolutely! To not have to share a tour or tour guide with anyone else was worth every penny. To be able to sit back and take in the sights for the drive back to Bozeman was worth every penny!

AJ was an amazing guide as he provided relevant historical information about the places we visited, animals we saw, and areas we drove through. The Yellowstone gates in Gardiner, the hot springs, mountains, and the boiling river were all spectacular. Equally amazing was the wildlife - bisons (near and far), wolves, bighorn sheep, antelope, deer, birds, and a moose! Having AJ as our guide allowed us to learn and observe and not be focused on driving and navigating. In addition, he supplied snacks and the use of an advanced camera. Finally, AJ was friendly, professional, patient and made for an amazing guided winter tour that we would recommend to anyone! Thank you for a memorable day!

We had a fantastic time on our tour with Globe Trekkers. They were very knowledgeable about the area and we were able to take many pictures. We will definitely be using them again when we visit again.
