Overview
We are a small company of only two Geologists that have the drive and inspiration to teach Hawaii's geological past along with all the other forms of this islands beauty. What To Expect
1
Punalu'u Black Sand beach
Have you ever seen a beach with black sand? Because of constant volcanic activity, you'll find white sands and black sands on the island of Hawaii. Located on the southeastern Ka'u coast, Punaluu Black Sand Beach is one of the most famous black sand beaches in Hawaii. Located between the towns of Pahala and Naalehu in Ka'u, Punaluu Black Sand Beach's jet black shores are an unforgettable sight. Coconut palms fringe the upper edge of sand and you may also discover large Honu, (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles), basking on the beach.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Hawaiā€˜i Volcanoes National Park protects some of the most unique geological, biological, and cultural landscapes in the world. The park encompasses the summits of the world's most active volcano, KÄ«lauea. The only comprehensive Park Tour available. Tour the Park and the entire Chain of Craters Road from Summit to Sea.
5
Rainbow Falls
On sunny days, rainbows appear in the mist of the 80-foot falls, making for some pretty magical views. The broad waterfall ā€” nearly 100 feet in diameter ā€” plunges over a natural lava cave and into the river below. When it rains, (which it often does in Hilo), the engorged Wailuku River makes the falls wider, muddier and louder. On these days, you wonā€™t see the rainbows for which this spot is named, but the sheer volume of water and the accessibility of this spot for all ages make it a fun, quick and easy excursion.

Saddle Road
Saddle Road, Hawaii, is considered among the most spectacular roads in the world. This is 55-mile drive of a chance of a lifetime experience. Hawaiiā€™s Route 200 goes through all four of her climates ā€“ tropical forests, arid desert, lush grasslands and misty mountaintop fog. Between miles 19 and 23, youā€™ll see a few places with lava flows and young vegetation and trees. Near the road you can see where lava thickened and left the telltale mounds of a slowing flow. Just after mile 23, youā€™ll come close to a popular local landmark, Pu`u Huluhulu, which is an older Mauna Kea cinder cone, or kÄ«puka, and itā€™s surrounded by younger lava flows. At this point, youā€™re near the peak height for Saddle Road, about 1.25 miles in elevation ā€“ 6,632 feet. From here, youā€™ll continue through the volcanic aftermath of hundreds of thousands of years of lava activity as you head toward Belt Road, where youā€™ll eventually descend into Kona or Waikoloa.

From pick up to drop off, Eric kept us well informed. He was very friendly and considerate. We loved the black sand beach, seeing the turtles parked on the beach, visiting Kilauea, learning about all volcanoes on island and touring a coffee plantation. We would definitely go on another tour with Eric!

I have to begin complimenting our tour guide, David. He is energetic, knowledgeable and is very good at what he does. The tour itself, however, leaves much to be desired. I cannot believe that none of the reviews I read complained about the awful amount of time spent in a van! I am aware that the island is large, but seriouslyā€¦who comes all the way to Hawaii to look out a window? Our tour began at 7:15 in the morning. We then picked up passengers from another location (25 min driveā€¦). Our first stop was supposed to be a tour of a coffee plantation. The view here was lovely, but it was NOT a tour! We stopped, heard about coffee trees, had some coffee and were then back in the vans! Next stop was the black sand beachā€¦ it too was beautiful (40 min visit) then back in the vans! Ordered our lunch while driving ā€¦.again lots of driving! Quick mediocre lunch and on to the Volcanic National Park. We spent a lot of time driving to different viewing points in the park.. again more driving! And at each stop David shared lots of information about geology and volcanos. So I guess if you love geology..this is a good tour for you. We proceeded to drive and stop all afternoon. One stop ( the lava tube) involved a brief walk- which was cool) but most stops were brief and then we were back in the van. Our last stop was a waterfall in a parking lot setting and we then got back in the van and still had an hour and 25 min drive back to the first groupā€™s hotel. My husband and I got back to our hotel at about 7 pm - we saw the sun set from the van! It was a very expensive tour and we spent about 65% (or more) of the time in a full van!

Dear Geri, You are our first non five star review so we are very concerned about your experience with us. We are glad to see that you state you had a great experience with our guide but not happy with factors that are outside of our ability to change. First and foremost, your complaint about the length of our tour. We actually spend an average of 6+ hours in the van and 5+ hours outside the van. Due to it being a big island there are very few ways to shorten the length or time of our tours. In fact, we are one of the few companies that drives over saddle road instead of all the way around to spend more time in Volcanos National Park and less time on the road. We state very clearly that this tour is going to be 11 to 12 hours, but we will look into making it more visible and known to future customers that you are driving around a big island. Our stop at Heavenly Hawaiian Coffee is about 45 minutes long and David talked with you about coffee, showing the pulping, and drying process at the Hoshidana. The rest of the time there is meant to enjoy the coffee and a welcoming environment thanks to the staff. We are the only tour company that goes to a restaurant and order a hot meal, because the cost is so high, so Iā€™m also sorry to hear it was mediocre to you. We have considered a box lunch like all other tour companies but I assume a cold sandwich, chips and water would have had a worse response. Thank you for pointing out our cost as it made me look at what other tour companies are charging for their tours that are similar to ours. It turns out everyone else is about the same cost as us or more. As far as your complaint about David talking about Geology throughout the trip, we encourage you to take a look at our website or information online. We state very clearly on our website that we are a company founded by Geologists, hence the name Hawaii Geo Tours. Our primary focus is to teach about the volcanics and geology of the island and the National Park. If you, or anyone, are not interested in the geology of the island then we are absolutely not the company for you. Itā€™s unfortunate you didnā€™t see this about us as we could have encouraged you to go with another company or a smaller island. Thank you for posting your opinion of our tour.

This tour was amazing! Where do I start from the pick up to the attention to detail, Erik was awesome. He went out of his way to ensure the entire group was comfortable. We maximized time and we were able to visit the coffee farm, a lovely restaurant, black sand Beach, volcano National Park (with arch and lava tube) and rainbow falls. Erik did not short change us and was incredibly attentive and friendly. You will not get personalized service from these big chains. This company is more than awesome!!!! Book with them and you will NOT be disappointed.
