We drove to Waco as a day trip while staying in Austin. We signed up for the 10;30 tour and planned to eat at Magnolia Table afterwards. We would finish the day at the Silos to shop. It all worked out perfectly. We signed up on-line for the Fixer Upper tour and enjoyed every minute of it. Our driver, Joe, was a local and really enjoyed sharing the history of Waco. He pointed out properties that have been purchased by Chip and Joanna Gaines that will be restored and converted into new businesses in the future. It's no nice to hear that the folks you admire as as authentic as you hope they are. They have been the driving force for Waco's transformation into a tourist destination. It was really fun to drive by the homes that were featured on the TV show. We learned that many of them have been turned into vacation rentals in the years since they were featured on the show. Oh, well. The owner of the Brazos tour company owns the Three Little Piggies house and so it is now part of the Fixer Upper tour. We stopped at the house and were able to walk through it at will. It's used for a bathroom break midway through the tour. The house is beautiful and the quality of the interior work is exceptional. I could move right in. That was a highlight of the tour. We made a stop at the clearance shop that was Joanna's earlier market (before the Silos), at Clint Harp's shop where we could purchase items, and at the metal working storefront for Jimmy Don. All cool stuff. And, yes, they will ship items if you don't have room in your suitcase.
