I’d known I wanted to explore the Freedom Trail during my trip to Boston but hadn’t really planned how I would do it beforehand. The night before the tour, I found the company through a Google search and decided to try it out. I loved every bit of the experience! We had a large group (maybe 50 or so) for the 12:30 time slot but the tour guide did such a great job of herding us and keeping us engaged. I really appreciated the commitment to the craft, from his dressing up in colonial garb to immersing himself as the individual he was portraying. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and cracked great jokes. The overall experience left me very satisfied and I’d highly recommend this to anyone who wants a speedy deep dive into some of Boston’s most historical landmarks. One caveat, I do wish our tour guide had been equipped with a microphone or something of the sort. I’m sure it’s a non issue in smaller groups but I found that it was occasionally difficult to hear him given the size of the group. He definitely did his best to project and I commend him for it, but something to amplify his voice might be a beneficial addition. Just some food for thought.

Our tour time changed from 930 to 1000 at the last minute. Fortunately I asked at the visitors center at 900 or I would not have known. Possibly the regular guide was unable to make it. Our tour guide was out front of the visitor center at 930 trying to seek more customers. He told everyone who walked to doors to buy tickets for his tour. This is fine but we could have departed at 930 as scheduled. He said um over 50 times and spoke to us while turning his back. He needed a mic. He could not project his voice and repeated some of his poor jokes...yes I know now that Paul Revere is on the Sam Adams tap. My teens learned more about beer and some architectural 21st century info re superman and king Kong. I booked the tour for the history of the revolutionary war. Our guide was not a historian. We made the best of it but it was a long tour. A couple departed 30 mins in. We had a wonderful tour in Salem the day before and knew how good a walking tour could be. Disappointed that we had a substitute guide who might not have been a regular and was thinking about facts as he went along. We saw another tour along the way with a dynamic speaker and another women who knew her history. I tried to overhear what they were sharing. I think this tour might be the luck of the draw. I wish they had canceled it rather than someone filling in who was not up to speed. I would have bought the audio tour. He didn't stay in character and I think he might have forgotten who he was portraying. At least it was only 100 minutes. We left at 1140 when I planned to be finished by 1100. We had other plans. No apology for tour change time and then he ran over when he didn't even have much to say.

Life as it is, we did have to make a last minute adjustment. BostonTownCrier offers a 100% satisfaction. The substitute guide was not a substitute but a teacher and tour guide that has received rave reviews in the past. If this reviewer was unsatisfied for any reason I would gladly issue a full refund plus two free tickets any time In the future ( with a different guide) We have been in business 11 years and our policy is to make sure our guests experience their visit to Boston in a very positive manner. This particular guide is extremely personal and highly educated. I wish you would visit us again. Thank You, Don Watson BostonTownCrier
