Our guide Chad was superb! We took a bus from Skagway through the small town and stopped for a short visit at the cemetery and walked around tombstones that dated from the 1889's to the 1940's. Many were simple but several were decorative and told a sad story of infant death. We hiked a short distance to Lower Reid falls where the fall colors were just beginning to show. After re-boarding the bus, we went up into the mountains seeing the landscape change from temperate rain forest to arboreal forest to tundra. We crossed into Canada, (must have a passport) then went from the bus to the White Pass train to return to Skagway. Heading back down, sit on the right side of the train. Scenery was, at times, jaw dropping. The conductor gave us a running description of everything we were looking at, and a history of the railroad and gold rush. Once returning to Skagway, we walked through the small but charming town. We didn't see much wildlife but the scenery makes up for it.

Our driver and tour guide Joe made the trip most enjoyable with his stories about the history of the area, his personal stories and stopping whenever wildlife such as bears were spotted. All in all a very relaxing and fun excursion.

Our tour was guided by Joseph Shepard. A soft spoken man full of interesting stories about the White Pass trip. The highlight of the trip was stopping at the US/Canadian border and having our picture taken. The scenery was breath-taking augmented by wild life.
