5th time visiting a mushers camp in Alaska over the last 10 years, always a favorite with the kids! Our group ranged from Age 5 to 75. Somehow, I missed the memo to have passports in hand. We had to run back to the ship to retrieve them. Our tour guide, Harry was knowledgeable and informative during the drive and we had lots of time to play with the puppies although it was a bit crowded. Somehow Wednesdays tend to be busier for this tour. The dogs are all clearly well cared for and enthusiastic to show off their talents pulling the vehicle on the short gravel trail. We got a kick out of their rambunctiousness when they left the trail to play in the water. There was some on and off rain making the air quite chilly, so I'd strongly recommend dressing in layers with rain outerwear. The restroom facilities are horrendous! If you prefer to us the facilities on the bus, bring your own toilet paper as it didn't have any. All in all, I'd strongly recommend this excursion. It would have been nice if the venue had complementary hot cocoa and coffee available although we did notice it in the gift shop for sale as we were leaving.

This was a great tour in Skagway, AK to see Tagish Lake Kennels. The tour guide, Harry, was very informative and gave great facts and history as we drove to see the dogs. The scenery was just beautiful and worth the drive. The kennel is not a fancy one, but the 14 puppies were fun and there were some adult dogs to pet as well. One of the owners, Michelle Phillips, gave us some information about dog sledding and the Iditarod and then loaded us in a side by side motorized vehicle, hitched up the dogs and they led us in up a hill, around a large pond for about a 10 minute ride. Don’t expect Siberian Husky dogs. We were told these are Alaskan Huskies and they are a mix of several breeds. They are thin, strong, and fast, and not the kinds of dogs we see in movies. It was a very fun experience and we learned a lot! Great for all ages.

We had a great time on this tour. It was the highlight of our Alaska trip. We debated about taking the train, but are really happy we selected this as we traveled almost the same route as the train takes plus got to do so much more. Harry and Zack did a great job as our tour guide and driver. We learned a lot about the area and history. Zack was great at spotting bears along the road. We did the 8 am tour and drove directly to the camp, which was a great plan as we were there before the other tours arrived. This allowed us more puppy time! We learned about mushing and had a fun ride in the cart. The teams are so excited to run! On the way back we stopped for photo opportunities including the Yukon sign, Alaska sign and a few other spots.

Thank you. We have a lot of people who have been to Skagway several times and its always good to hear them say how much more enjoyable our trip is than when they did the train.
