Our guide, Harry, was informative and friendly talking about flora, fauna, history and geology of the area. My wife and I were joined by 5 others from another cruise ship. We were taken by van to Michelle Phillips’ Tagish Lake Kennel. After an hour we arrived at the kennel, entered and were immediate greeted by 10 georgious, tail wagging puppies. We spent about 29 minutes with the puppies and then were taken into the dog yard and were greeted by Michelle. There were about 35 dogs in the yard and we watched the dogs being attached to the gang lines and the Kawasaki mules. I was fortunate to sit in the front seat with Michelle was we rode for about 2 mikes through the trails in the beautiful Yukon wilderness. Being an Iditarod afficianado I had lots of questions and she graciously answered all. Upon returning to the dog yard, she led us to a hut where she had sled dog racing equipment and maps of the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest races. She explained the uses of the equipment and race logistics. She answered questions again and then we went back to the puppy yard. I have an Iditarod cap and she graciously signed the bill. We exited through a small gift shop with shirts, leashes, books and a variety of things for sale. We drove for a few minutes to the “Welcome to the Yukon” sign and had time for pics. We stopped several times on the return trip for pics. We asked Harry for restaurant and shopping suggestions which were helpful. He offered to drop us off in town or at the cruise ship pier.

Great experience. Our Guide was Harry from Skagway Day Trips and Scooters. He was excellent! Gave us lots of good info about the area and about the team we visited. The actual place was great. Lots of quality time with the animals and a fun ride. Great play area with the puppies with huge tire swing. You also have the opportunity to learn about the musher and what her team does.

This was our best excursion on our Alaska cruise. Harry was our guide and he was fabulous. He knew all the staff at the site and actually knew many of the husky puppies and what litter they were from. Being able to ride on a training run with the actual dogs who run the race was spectacular.
