What an amazing afternoon we had on the Verde river! Our party of 4 was so pleasantly surprised at how much fun we had kayaking down the river - it was both relaxing and invigorating. Being from Arizona, we didn't expect the river to be so secluded and surrounded by as much green as it was and it was a perfect balance of calm flowing water and a few mini "rapids". It was also a great balance of sun and shade. The kayaks were comfortable and, although a little harder to maneuver as compared to a plastic kayak, very fun and bounced off the reeds easily if mismaneuvered :) Although some reviewers commented on the shallowness of the river, we did not find it an issue at all. Because the kayaks are inflatable, it was very easy to push yourself off if you bottomed in a shallow portion along the edge. Just as a heads up, you WILL get wet - not because of any splashing or tipping, but from the action of rowing, water will drip across your lap which honestly was very cooling during the trip, but you will need to change clothes at the vineyard if you don't like sitting in wet shorts/pants.
The final destination provided even more to look forward to - Alcantara Vineyard was both beautiful and relaxing. The wine was very good - which again was a pleasant surprise. We ended up buying a bottle after the wine tasting and the charcuterie board was wonderful.
I would not only recommend this trip but will most definitely do it again. You get quite the bang for your buck with the 1 1/2 to 2 hour kayaking and the wine tasting where you can spend as much time as you'd like enjoying the scenery and great wine!
