Insightful, educational and entertaining. The friendly and engaging guide, John, had plenty of relevant and interesting anecdotes and knowledge about the local culture and the landscape and nature. The tour gave a real insight into the way of like of the locals and their history. Moreover the beautiful scenery and stunning sunset makes it a memorable and worthwhile tour. We met with no difficulty in the reception of the View Hotel. If travelling to the View to start the tour, factor in some time to get through the park entrance toll booth. Took us about 10 minutes on a Monday afternoon at 4.45. The first 45 minutes were spent at viewpoints on the loop road, which is accessible to private cars as well (although the road is very rough and we would not be happy taking our rental vehicle down it, there were many other private cars on this bit). Our experience here was enriched by John's input and he pointed out interesting mesas. After that we took a turn off the public road to multiple quieter locations with ample opportunity to stop, take pictures and ask questions. Our guide John was also always available to take family photos and even played a traditional pipe for us at one point. Also visited a traditional Hogan as part of the trip, which provided insights into traditional living. Lovely jewellery and weaving with no pressure to buy and, very reasonably, a voluntary donation box was also available. Finished off in good time to see a spectacular sunset reflecting on the mittens, back at the View. Thanks to John for a great sunset trip, enjoyed tremendously by the whole family.

Harry our guide was awesome. He provided a wealth of information of the area, history as well as tips on shooting pictures with your cell phones and 35mm cameras. The ride to the location to watch the sunrise was like a 4x4 jeep ride, which was a nice addition. Watching the sunrise was gorgeous. After the sunrise we toured other sites in the valley. Harry sang me a Navajo version of Happy Birthday and played us a tune on Navajo flute like instrument. We stopped at a home of the Yazi (sp) family and a Navajo women showed us how they make yarn from wool and also put my daughters and friend's hair up in buns and explained the significant to Navajo women wearing their hair in buns. Trip was much more than we expected!!

We booked the sunset tour for our party of four adults and one child. We met our group in the lobby of The View Hotel where we made payment and introduced ourselves. Our guide for this tour was John and he was very good at his line of work. We set out into the valley about 5:00 for our three hour tour. John was excellent at explaining the meanings of the names given to the rock formations. He also gave us history lessons about his people. The background on family names and how the women are dominant in the family line was fascinating. He made a point of giving attention to our nine year old son and making sure he had a great experience. We stopped at one location where John played a tune on his native flute that was beautiful and perfectly in tune with the surroundings. We got back to the hotel just in time to witness the sunset doing its thing on the monuments. I highly recommend this tour for anyone that wants to venture off the public path and get real Navajo insights to the land and what it means.
