If this is a TLDR for some of you, I’ll summarize: 5/5 highly recommend.
First of all, I booked this trip for the beginning of the season in 2023, and it ended up getting canceled because there was too much snow on the north rim. Luckily, my plane tickets were refundable (I would advise this due to the variable nature of nature). Adam and his team did a great job of communicating with me and getting me set up for this year.
I was very intimidated going into this trip - zero camping experience, I hate being too hot, and I don’t typically carry much when I hike. So carrying 40 pounds in 90 degree heat was not appealing to me. But it was amazing. Katie was so supportive and inspiring, in addition to being a patient guide and a killer camp cook. She didn’t stop going until all of us were comfortable.
In terms of logistics, the first day is looong - 7 hours to the north rim, and then a 7 mile downhill hike to the first camp. The next few days are much more manageable and pleasant, with available side treks if you’re game. Because it gets so hot, guides will try to get you to camp by noon.
Groups are small, no more than 5. So no worries about getting left behind, though you still need to train.
