DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY to learn what is not taught in school! Jake Williams is a historian and lifelong Resident of Alabama with a treasure chest of knowledge and experience. He starts this tour with a twenty minute lecture/discussion of Alabama history. He follows a timeline of important events from the confederacy, through Reformation, Jim Crow, the Civil Rights movement into the present. He drives tourists around Montgomery to view significant landmarks in person as well. Highlights include sights of the largest slave market in US history, the Rosa Parks arrest, Dexter Street and the Alabama State Capital (sight of confederate inauguration of Jefferson Davis, confederate Parade and march of MLK and 25,000 followers from Selma to protest voter suppression), and much more. It's sad that nearly 250 years after the US declared "all men are created equal" this concept is still a source of debate and fear for some.

Jake is serious about making this the best tour you will ever take. He had a professional, clean, and huge tour bus (social distancing compatible), opened the doors for us, gave us complimentary journals, magazines, and Alabama brochures in a tote bag, complimentary bottles of water (our 3 year old appreciated that), and even gave us a choice of his favorite local restaurant to eat lunch at. We drove by and walked through every major landmark in Montgomery, including the capitol, historic places like the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, the spot where the Freedom Riders were attacked, the very place Rosa Parks was arrested, and more. Jake even drove us to Selma on the very route Rev John Lewis, Dr. King, and all the foot soldiers walked, and let us walk across the famous bridge in Selma where Obama spoke in 2015 to a crowd of 80,000 people. This tour guide is a foot soldier himself. He joined the Selma march as a child and pointed out the "blacks only" water fountain he had to drink from as a child.

Breadth and scope of Mr. Williams' expertise. His pride in Montgomery and particularly Alabama State University was infectious.
