We had a weird experience with this tour. We had debated as to whether or not it was worth paying for the guided tour of the memorial, but we didn’t want to miss anything. Based on the reviews, we thought it would be worth it.
Our guide spent about an hour showing us through the Oculus, stopping to eat chocolate, a view of the Statue of Liberty, etc, etc. We were worried that the tour was going to end up lasting 3 hours. Nope. We finally get to the memorial, and barely 30 minutes of the tour was spent on what we wanted to hear about. Even that 30 min was not much info.
I’ve read through about 3 months of reviews and can’t find anyone else saying the same thing. So I’m not sure if our guide just didn’t want to be out in the cold or what the deal was. As I said, it was simply odd. At one point I asked my wife if she actually saw our names on a printed list, cause I thought we had gotten scammed. I felt like we would have seen more of the memorial and learned more on our own.
The one awesome thing he showed us was a memorial in the AMEX building that they built to remember 11 employees they lost on 9/11.
The memorial was amazing. The museum was beyond amazing (see my review from same day). This tour was just odd.

Often we get complaints about the weather, so if the guide was inside the Oculus for a bit, it was probably for the guests comfort, rather than for the guides and It does afford the opportunity to see the AMEX 11 tears memorial, however, which is not a normal part of the tour. We are glad the guest enjoyed that bonus! They would not have known that existed if not for the tour and the guide. We are very glad they enjoyed the Museum as well.
