C.M. Russell Museum
Born in 1864 in St. Louis, Charles M. Russell grew up fascinated by tales of the Wild West. He traveled to Montana in 1880 and made a life on the frontier, working first as a cowboy and then a night wrangler, leaving his days free to observe and sketch working cowboys. Once a full-time artist, Russell moved with his wife the short distance from Cascade to Great Falls, where he built his home and studio. Over the course of his life he created around 4,000 works of art that reside in both public and private collections throughout the country.    Although primarily focused on the works of the local artist, the C.M. Russell Museum also includes numerous collections of other western artists whose works complemented the themes that so intrigued Russell throughout his lifetime as well as the original Russell Home and Studio.

CM.

Any visit to Great Falls, MT would be incomplete without touring the C.M. Russell Museum. If you know anything about Montana history, particularly the famed Western artist Charlie Russell, to miss this museum would be very unfortunate. Not only will you be able to view some of Charlie's best works, but other Western artists as well. And you can explore Charlie's workshop and his and Nancy's home on the same site.

You'll be very fortunate to visit this unique site in Great Falls and perhaps all USA. It's most importan paintings are unique by the artist Russell who was able to get what he saw and experience in the XIX when living and travelling in the west. There are many items, artifacts, objects and paints, sculptures from other important American artists from the XIX and beggening of XX century, most of them inspired by Russell. This is one of the 3 most important museums in Great Falls, all well conserved and displayed on 2 levels of the big building. There are also a cabin *(shared studio with another local artist), Russell's house and several metal statues outdoors. The gift store inside the museum is big and has many variated souveniers and crafts on sale, some pretty expensive. There's also another gift store just on the opisite corner from the museum, where you can find many other items related to the city and Montana state. It's staff are all very polite, helpful, infomative, smiliy. The site is very worth to visit, well conserved and maintained. There's an elevator for both levels and access for handicap persons too. Excellent choice for visitors in town, and for families with kids too.Us 3 had a great time for almost 2 hrs, and so we do recommend it 100 % to everybody. C - M - S from Speedycreek, SK, CAN.

l like Charles M. Russel. His paintings are so beautiful. He paints Indians and cowboys. It is so gorgeous. I saw most of his paintings here. I was so happy! After admiring the paintings we visited his home. It is a home like in the past. By the way he adapted also a baby boy. He died on the restroom and we will miss him. His wooden cabin was for painting. This is where he worked, sometimes for a long time. I was glad that I had the opportunity to see all his paintings. Wow! A must see.
