Anchorage
Continuing the adventure toward Anchorage, we will parallel the Turnagain Arm on the most scenic 40-mile drive in Alaska. Continuing with our 100% Alaska crafted theme, we will visit the largest distillery in Alaska. Utilizing Alaska grown barley and wheat, fresh Alaskan berries, and pristine glacier water, Anchorage Distillery is crafting some of the state’s smoothest gins, vodkas, and whiskeys. We will sample these spirits straight or in a handmade craft cocktail and go behind the scenes to take a closer look at the production process. Rounding out our Alaska Crafted Tour will find us at one of the most popular tasting rooms in the state, Double Shovel Cider Company. Named for a caribou antler formation prized by hunters, Double Shovel opened in 2016 as the first microcidery in Alaska. Sourcing as many local Alaskan apples as possible and utilizing a proprietary juice blend from the Pacific Northwest, see and sample these gluten free cider blends at the source.

Ancrage

Looking for a phenomenal day with a personable, knowledgeable guide and a different flavor, you can’t beat Big Swig. We lucked out and the four of us had Brian to ourselves. The van looked like he drove it from the showroom floor to pick us up at the port in Whittier, Alaska. For the rest of the day, he drove us first to lunch at the ski lodge at Alyeska in Girdwood then to Girdwood Brewing Company for great locally crafted beers and lots of stories. We wrapped up with a stop at the must go to Anchorage Distillery that included a fascinating tour of the facility. Brian shared a wealth of information about Alaska during the drive. Finally, we had to deviate from our planned schedule a bit, which was no problem for Brian when he took us to the rental car location. All in all, it was a great experience which we highly recommend.

Bryan was amazing. We have been on many brewery tours, this one was the best. If you are staying in anchorage after your cruise and don't want to be herded around with hundreds on trains and buses, this is the tour for you. Educational, fun, relaxing, and tasty. What more could you want. Bryan even dropped us at the house of our Turo car rental. That is the above and beyond customer service you always appreciate.

If you have an extra 8.5 hours at the end of your Alaska cruise, I'm not sure there's a better way to spend it. Bryan and Roberta own Big Swig Tours. They texted me the day before our ship arrived in Whittier to sync up and ensure we had their number. Roberta was right there at the dock at 9:45 as we left our ship. Photo stops along the Seward Highway. Alyeska Aerial Tram to the lodge at the top for lunch and light hiking. The best micro brewery tour I've ever had at Girdwood. Then on to Anchorage Distillery, and Double Shovel Cider Co. Roberta was a great guide mixing personal stories, with history and fun all along the way. We arrived at the airport refreshed and ready for our red-eye back to NJ :)
