Alaska Railroad Anchorage to Seward Round-Trip Same Day Return

Departing from downtown Anchorage, the Coastal Classic Train travels south along the rugged coastline of Turnagain Arm, with dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains plunging directly to the sea. At the end of Turnagain Arm, the tracks veer away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness – and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the Alaska Railroad, accessible only by train. Watch for views of massive glaciers, steep river canyons, and cascading waterfalls. The train arrives to Seward at 1115 am, allowing plenty of time to explore this charming port town – or opt to take a marine wildlife & glacier day cruise into the nearby Kenai Fjords – before departing on the return journey at 6 pm that evening, arriving back to Anchorage by 10:15 pm.

Completely disappointed. Waste of money and time. Seward is not even a city. Just couple of houses and sea. If there is not good weather there is nothing to do. Dont do that.

Wonderful scenic trip. Enjoyed the chance to see bald eagles along the way and learn about the history of the railroad. We ate in the dining car and the food was great.

The round trip train Anchorage to Seward was amazing. The crew was knowledgeable, friendly and quite helpful. The food was quite yummy. I liked that I was able to eat from my own seat upstairs. Having the flexibility meant alot to me. The views and the ride were memorable even on a cloudy and rainy day. Would definitely do again and highly recommend this excursion.
