Alligator River Kayak Adventure

Aperçu
Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is a 125,000 acre wildlife preserve managed by the United States Fish & Wildlife Service. This incredible wildlife corridor was also home to an old logging and whiskey distilling community during Prohibition. Who knew the OBX had black bear and endangered red wolves? Also see snowy egrets, great blue herons, and turtles.

We had such a great time, our favorite thing we did in OBX! My family that went was 56, 25, 22, and 19 and everyone had a blast. My mom (56) was worried about the strain of rowing / how safe the kayaks were but these kayaks were extremely easy to maneuver and our guide made her feel safe. (The other three including myself had been kayaking many times). The path was absolutely gorgeous, we saw a variety of wildlife including birds, turtles, 3 alligators, and frogs. And the river/lake was incredibly beautiful. It was very hot but you could drag your feet in the water and you got a little wet when rowing. I would 100% recommend this to anyone! Many thanks to our terrific guide, Bella! She was extremely nice and friendly, knew a ton about the area, and could answer any questions.

Great trip, our guide Olivia was very informative and really made the experience. A good mix of open lake paddling with a guided tour thru the water trails. Plenty of wildlife to see. We saw alligators, turtles birds (woodpeckers were our favorite). Small porta potty before you launch and that’s it for facilities. Not a complaint just be prepared.

My husband and I had a great time on this tour! The Kayaking route was fun, the guide was very knowledgeable and was more than happy to answer any and all of our questions. We saw a couple of alligators and turtles. After the Kayaking adventure the guide had recommended to us that if we were interested in seeing a black bear to drive down some of the nearby driving trails. About 20 minutes in to driving down one of these trails we came across a black bear which walked about 20 feet passed our car. It was amazing and the area is absolutely beautiful!! I highly recommend. Don't forget to tip your guide!!
