Alligator River Kayak Adventure

Aperçu
Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is a 125,000 acre wildlife preserve managed by the United States Fish & Wildlife Service. This incredible wildlife corridor was also home to an old logging and whiskey distilling community during Prohibition. Who knew the OBX had black bear and endangered red wolves? Also see snowy egrets, great blue herons, and turtles.

I cannot say enough about how much we appreciated Olivia our tour guide! She was very sweet, extremely helpful, and a great tour guide. I will be recommending kayaking here to anyone who will listen!

We went out on this kayak tour yesterday. The area where the tour takes place was very nice, but our tour was crowded with 16 people for a single guide. With all those boats out there, there was practically no information shared since the guide was usually very far away. We only saw a single gator, even for that I had to stay behind the group to see it. I am not surprised that gators hid from such a large group. I would look for an operator next time that guaranteed a small group size.

We are experiencing the busiest summer in recorded history this year and lucky for us our tours are full. Next time if you would like more information and info I would suggest staying closer to the guide so they can communicate with you. Staying behind the group is potentially dangerous and you are not able to hear the info the guide shares. All of our staff are certified by the American Canoe and Kayak Association: no other operator requires such a high level of training. Also we have an extensive training through the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Audubon Society and the Nature Conservancy so the guides have plenty of info to share. As for the gators we cannot guarantee wildlife sightings on any tour. Animals may or may not present themselves; this is not a zoo. We are sorry you did not enjoy your tour but are confident almost all of our customers do.
