The changing scenery and wondrous terrains on the way to Antelope Canyon and back to Flagstaff were well worth it alone, with Ryan's enthusiastically shared wealth of information about history, ecosystems, water and many of the complex interrelationships. For me, a big treat was gazing out the van windows for hours in air-conditioned comfort because I didn't have to drive--plus pickup and drop-off at our Flagstaff hotel happened hassle-free.
The picnic lunch at Glen Canyon Dam overlooking Lake Powell was delicious and refreshing--snacks and chilled water and soda along the way to the other destinations kept us alert too.
My friend snapped many great pictures everywhere. He said the Navajo guide did a great job showing Antelope Canyon.
Because the tour was a surprise for me, booked from a brochure my traveling pal had found in our hotel lobby, I found I didn't have proper shoes packed for the short hikes uphill and downhill over hot sand and uneven stones between the parking lots and the canyons, so I chose to sit out the two main attractions! The best I could do was "walking sandals" when athletic shoes or hiking boots would have been more or most appropriate and I was still recovering from a recent knee injury besides. Despite my wimping out of the main events, I thoroughly enjoyed myself on this day-tour and greatly appreciated Ryan's flexibility.
This marvelous jaunt was great fun, start to finish--now it's on my list of musts.
