This excursion is on a two person catamaran-like boat powered with a motor. Speeds max out at 30mph and the learning portion of boat operation is so easy that it takes 10 minutes. The tour is 3 hours exploring the 10,000 islands where you travel through the mangroves in some of the calmest water ever seen. You are flat on the water so when you see wildlife, they are up close and personal. I was so close to a dolphin I could hear it blowing out the water as it surfaced very close to our boat. We saw white Pelicans, many schools of dolphins and rare birds. The scenery is beautiful and during part of the ride there are no other boats in sight. We pulled into a small island for a short break and there was time for shelling and general exploring before cutting across the Gulf to take the shortcut back as the sun was setting. Jeff and Christina were our guides and they were great and a lot of fun. If you book this trip you will not be greeted with a fancy boat dock or a tour building with any amenities. It's a simple operation in Goodland with nothing more than the boats and a porta potty. When we first arrived, I admit I had second thoughts. But many people arrived and I thought it was worth a try. I am SO glad we did. I loved every minute. Tips: bring a small towel and a jacket if you're on the sunset trip that begins at 3pm. There is a very small storage area in the boat for these items. You need sunscreen, sunglasses and bug spray too if you're in the later trip because when you get back to the dock it will be dark. Bring small snacks and drinks. There is a small cooler on board each boat. The ride is steady enough for you to take pictures, and you definitely will want to. Great time! Highly recommend!
