Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

Take a brief shuttle to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center for a guided & interpretive tour of the animals. The center is Alaska’s premier rehabilitation facility for injured and orphaned wildlife. AWCC Tour runs 1.5 hours and includes walking and driving options to view the animals. A sack lunch is provided with this tour.

Centre de conservation de la faune de l'Alaska

Prenez une brève navette jusqu'au centre de conservation de la faune de l'Alaska pour une visite guidée et interprétative des animaux. What an awesome way to see the Spencer Glacier. We boarded the Alaska Railroad train for a very scenic and relaxing ride to the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop. On the train, we met Brooke, who was one of the river guides. She was very friendly, helpful and informative. Once at the Spencer Glacier stop, we disembarked. and after a short bus ride through the wilds of Alaska, we arrived at the beach, where Personal Flotation Devices were waiting. After a short safety briefing, we boarded our rafts, and headed into the 34 deg water where we got close and personal with the icebergs floating in the lake. Robert, our guide for the trip, was able to give us lots of information about the area, and the glacier. Entering the swifter water of the Placer River, we began our 7.5 mile float down to the take out point. Along the way, we saw beaver dams, avalanche areas, and a few hand build bridges.

We had a rental car so drove from Girdwood to the Portage train station and picked up the tour from there. It was a fun ride on the train to the final stop and then a bus took us down to the Spencer Glacier - the views upon arrival are spectacular with icebergs floating in the lake! Our raft guide, Justin, was very knowledgeable and educated us on the glacier along with the area down the Placer River. It was so cool (literally!) to reach out an touch an iceberg. Thanks Justin for such a great day!

We went on the Churgach Adventures Spencer Glacier Placer River Float Tour - what an experience. From the train ride that left Anchorage, to the trip on the lake where you get up close to floating icebergs, then floating down the river - amazing ! The crew and guides were all helpful, proffesional, knowledgeable and passionate. This trip suits anyone - not strenuous; safe; suitable for all ages. A must do.
