We were in San Francisco with visiting guests from Japan. Only had one day for them to see the sights so he/we though that a bus tour might be the thing to do.
Big mistake! Turned out that this price ($50/person) hop on hop off bus isn't a tour, just a bus that speeds around time. Get a muni day pass for a lot less and do the same thing!
The bus was packed when we got on. No seating, and the isles packed with standees, among whom we ended up. Not good; partially disabled, no way I could have stood up for a 2 hour tour and when standing you can't see anything outside of the bus! First stop and another 30-50 people trying to get on the bus!
There is no narration of any kind, just this packed bus speeding through the streets to get to its next stop! We quickly realized this wasn't what we wanted, wasn't what we though we were getting and wasn't going to work. More concerned about holding on than trying to watch what was outside.
We got off at the next available stop (after missing one because the bus was so crowded by that point that they didn't even bother to stop) and asked the person jamming people on how to get a refund.
Turns out you have to apply in writing for a refund, which we've done. Don't hold out high hopes however... their business model seems to be built on "get their money" before they know what they're getting but we will see.
