A great way to see the city for the first time and get an idea and perspective of where everything is

My three kids (ages 7, 9, and 11) and I had a great time on the Big Bus today. We were able to get off at the stops we wanted and we never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a bus to come along. The app was especially useful for tracking where the busses were along the route. The headphone system worked great for us and the guides were very informative. The kids loved sitting on the top deck so we could have the best view of everything. Everyone was very helpful along the way and the guide on our last bus, Alicia, was especially knowledgeable. Thank you so much making our last full day in DC great. We’ll look forward to riding Big Busses in other cities we visit.

I waited until I cooled off a bit to write this review. I wish I had read the reviews before we spent $100 on tickets. Seriously! While it’s comforting to know we weren’t the only REALLY disappointed riders it doesn’t change the fact that this particular tour bus service needs to shut down the DC tours. We used our tickets on 7-3. Like most Americans we are aware that the US celebrates its independence from Britain on 7-4. Having said that, for the first 10-15 minutes the female narrator on the Blue Line felt it was imperative to rudely repeat over and over that streets were going to close and why the streets were closing over and over. About 15 minutes into a tour we found we were to change to a Red line. My husband and I were at the top level and I told the woman we wanted to stay on this bus and didn’t mind seeing some things again (not that we had seen anything yet)...so she’s walking towards me when I told her this and she said, and I quote “if you want to see anything you have to get off this bus”. I said oh no one told us we had to transfer and in keeping with the obvious tone that she hates her job she says “well I just told you.” Are you freaking kidding me? We have taken the Hop on Hop off buses in Toronto and New York City and San Francisco (just there on 6-19). All of our previous experiences have been amazing and we were really looking forward to this company in DC. So we move to the new bus and see exactly NOTHING! Seriously not a thing. We zipped by seeing some sights fly by. We drove up to the parking lot at Arlington National Cemetery (knew this because I read a sign) no one said anything about the stop. All in all this particular Hop on Hop off is terrible. I sincerely don’t understand how it stays in business. The employees hate their jobs and evidently hate tourists and have zero desire to participate in anything that remotely has anything to do with a tour. We finally just got off and Uber took us back into downtown. We actually learned more from the Uber driver than we did all day from this tour....and we weren’t in the Uber longer than 20 minutes. Anyone wanting a pleasant informative tour will do better in a taxi or Uber. No wonder people visiting from other countries think Americans are thoughtless and stupid, nothing on this tour would have done a single thing to change their mind.
