I often say when discussing products or services, know what it is – and know what it isn’t. If walking around 2 miles, in broken up segments, at a leisurely pace is a challenge for you – this is not your tour. If you don’t care to hear about history, particularly early local American and Revolutionary war era history – this is not your tour. For the food part, if you desire a sit down service tasting – this is not your tour.
Tim was our tour guide this day. I’d not call this a “foodie tour”; it’s a walking history tour that includes trying out local specialties along the way. When you go to the paneterria you’re not going to get a description of the differences between Grano Duro and Tenero wheat – but you will get to sample some exceptional Italian bread. We had one stop where we sat down, another we sat on some park benches and at a few places we walked & snacked along the way.
The 2nd half of the tour is strictly history related – no food. Most certainly you could get an App, purchase a book or find a free online curated tour of the area. But what you don’t get is what the good tour guide provides - “the story”; the insider view, the story behind the story, the contributing parts leading to the story, the outcomes of the story, the outcomes of the contributing parts to the story. Tim doesn’t just point and say “that water there, that’s the Boston Harbor” – but instead discusses what it meant long ago, how it developed, what it is today and where it will be tomorrow.
